Looking for an excuse to hit the road on the year’s first warm-weather long weekend? Here are eight ideas.

Four Lanark County attractions are opening for the season on Saturday, May 16: the Almonte Farmer’s Market, the R. Tait McKenzie and James Naismith Museum at the Mill of Kintail in Almonte, the Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario in Smiths Falls, and the Middleville and District Museum (which is kicking things off with an opening day tea and an auction of art and textiles).

For thrill seekers

MTL Zipline opens for business today and claims to be Canada’s first urban zipline circuit. Soar high above Old Montreal while dangling from a high wire, for $19.50 plus tax. I’m looking forward to trying it soon!

For families

The Old Farm at Parc Omega opens for the season tomorrow. And if you don’t want to take your own vehicle through this park full of free-roaming animals, rentals of souped-up golf carts (with caged-in tops) begin on Saturday, too.

For bargain lovers

The newish 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel in Clayton, N.Y.—which I’m hoping to check out in the next month or so—is offering Canadian at par prices until the end of May.

For girls getting away

Itching for a women’s only weekend? Check out Tourism Kingston’s girls’ getaway suggestions, including shopping, the farmers’ market, concerts and a blow-dry bar.

Note: I haven’t had the chance to try some of these activities personally yet, so these are just “FYI” suggestions. If you go, drop me a comment about your adventure!
