Lake Louise gets its blue-green colour from tiny pieces of rock swept into the lake by glaciers. The little particles reflect green and blue wavelengths of light from the sun. Taken on the grounds of the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise.

A collection of photos from across Canada wouldn’t be complete without a shot of one of our most famous sites: Lake Louise in Banff National Park, Alberta. The day I visited in 2013 was cloudy and grey, and I only had about five minutes to take a few photos before I was due to be somewhere else. However, you really can’t take a bad photo of scenery like this!

Want to be in this same spot? You’ll find it in the extensive gardens behind the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise.

Throughout July and August 2017, I’ll be posting one photo a day that I’ve taken somewhere across Canada, in celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary. Want to see more photos in this series? Type “Canada 150 photo” in the search window on the right-hand side of this page.
