Whether you’d like to kick back with a beverage and some live music, get some inspiration for your garden, or do a few outdoor sun salutations, I have lots of inspiration for day trips for you this week. Happy—and safe—travels! (Note that most of the companies and events mentioned below have details on their websites about their social-distancing protocols.)

Book a food and beverage tour

Ottawa’s À la Carte Shuttle and Tours is now taking bookings for two of its culinary tours: a puzzle-style walking food tour called Neighbourhoods Unlocked (restarting July 23) and the self-guided Cycle and Savour tours (restarting July 25). La Vida Local is offering private tours of nearby wineries, breweries and culinary spots. And Brew Donkey will be offering two of its beer-themed tours—a walking tour and a bus-based tour—starting July 25 (it also offers private tours).

Enjoy outdoor tunes in Morrisburg or Westport

Pete Wood (sax), John Geggie (bass) and Roddy Elias (guitar) will be playing vintage jazz standards outdoors in an evening show at StoneCropAcres Winery and Vineyard in Morrisburg on Sunday, July 19. And on weekend afternoons throughout the summer, the Westport Brewing Company is offering live music in its outdoor beer garden on the shore of Upper Rideau Lake.

Stroll gardens near Almonte or Merrickville

Whitehouse Nursery and Display Gardens, south of Almonte, is hosting the Bloomfest Garden Art Show and Sale from July 21 to August 3. Visitors can browse for works by 12 artists, on display throughout the gardens, and admire the nursery’s daylily field.

A trail at Rideau Woodland Ramble

Near Merrickville, you can shop for plants and get inspired by display gardens at Rideau Woodland Ramble. The site is open seven days a week.

Do yoga outdoors in Ottawa or Gatineau

You can practise your downward dog outdoors during Saturday morning yoga classes at Parc des Trembles in Gatineau (weather permitting). And Domaine Perrault, a winery on Ottawa’s southeast edge, is offering Yoga in the Vineyard throughout the summer. Classes include a glass of wine. The next date is Wednesday, July 22.

Hello,
J’ai peut-être manqué quelque chose. Avez-vous parlé de Popsilo, les 7 silos complètement peints de scènes bucoliques par des artistes de la région. Un très beau circuit à travers Prescott-Russell.

Great suggestion, Isabelle–thanks! I do know about it, but it’s always good to be reminded. 🙂 Here’s a post I wrote about it a few years ago. https://ottawaroadtrips.com/2018/06/19/three-great-reasons-day-trip-ottawa-cumberland-ontario/
