Downtown Ottawa traffic chaos expected this week

close up of heavy truck wheelsPlanning to drive in downtown Ottawa on Tuesday or Wednesday? I’d avoid it, if I were you. The United We Roll Convoy for Canada is due to arrive, and the City of Ottawa has already issued an alert urging drivers to take alternate forms of transit downtown—anything but a car, really—on those two days. (The bus may not be much better; see below.)

Here’s the scoop on what to expect when the United We Roll Convoy for Canada arrives.

  • Wellington Street will be closed between Kent Street and Elgin Street from 8am until late afternoon, at least, on both days.
  • As trucks and other vehicles will be heading to Parliament Hill from all directions, including Gatineau, most other arterial roads and the interprovincial bridges will likely be very busy.
  • OC Transpo buses will be rerouted, as necessary. Para Transpo pickups and drop-offs may be slower than usual. Basically, expect transit delays.

Be patient and drive safely.
