In my mind, it’s always a good time for butter tarts. These are from the Gingerbread Man in Manotick. Photo copyright Laura Byrne Paquet.

Are you one of those people who starts their Christmas shopping absurdly early? Or do you just feel like treating yourself to a new bauble, bottle or bon bon? Either way, Manotick is a particularly good place to head on November 7, when local businesses will be giving out goodies and deals as part of the village’s Women’s Day promotion.

Treats include a free gingerbread stick with icing dip at the Gingerbread Man, 20% off handbags at Mansfield Shoes, special menus at several restaurants, lots of raffles and gifts, and a sit-down Victorian Tea at the Dickinson House museum. Pick up a passport at any of the participating businesses and, if you collect stamps from 12 different participants, you can enter a draw.

While you’re in the area, don’t miss the Third World Bazaar, just a few clicks from the village in Manotick Station. This is the second-last weekend for the sale of beautiful gift items from Thailand, Vietnam, Ecuador and other countries—everything from glassware and rugs to jewellery and clothing.
